During 2017, the Greyhound Advancement Center worked with the State of Florida Education Department to help establish training criteria for formalizing dog training programs throughout the State of Florida. We then integrated our dog training program to become part of the State of Florida Occupational Credentialing Program to provide inmate trainers with certifications and marketable job related skills so our inmate trainers are better able to find suitable employment when they are released.
Full certification (80+ weeks of training):
Dog Handler (details)
Basic Obedience (details)
Intermediate Dog Trainer (details)
Advanced Dog Trainer (details)
Skills include everything from basic care and keeping, K9 CPR, basic, intermediate and advanced obedience, behavioral assessments, journaling of training, problem solving skills etc.
The State of Florida issues dog trainer certificates to our inmate trainers as they successfully complete their requirements. The Greyhound Advancement Center also issues our own dog trainer certificates that correlate with the State of Florida requirements.
